Small Business Website Redesign: What to Fix, Keep and Test

A small business website redesign should solve a customer or operational problem. The age of a website alone does not establish that problem. Pick one service and follow its customer journey: understand the offer, check the evidence, send an enquiry and receive a response. This gives the project an outcome you can verify after launch.

01Decide between a repair and a redesign

If only the form fails, start with the form. If visitors cannot understand your services, review the information structure and copy. Discuss a full redesign when limitations repeat across the site, the mobile experience needs systematic rebuilding or staff cannot maintain essential content. Describe the issue as something observable: the keyboard covers the submit button, the service page has no eligibility information, or the enquiry never reaches the assigned person. A dated appearance can justify a visual review, but it does not yet define the business outcome.

02Make a keep, fix and add inventory

Start with pages that matter to enquiries and organic search. Record each page’s audience, job, next step and content owner. Preserve accurate descriptions, original photography, useful answers and pages that already receive relevant links.
KeepFixAdd where needed
Useful URLs and contentUnclear offers and navigationScope, timing and exclusions

Use the inventory when comparing scope. It stops a discussion about improving one customer journey from becoming an undefined rebuild of every section.

03Design one complete service journey

The opening section should explain the task you solve and the area you serve. Follow it with the work included, relevant evidence, practical conditions and a contact route. Match the evidence to the customer’s question: photography shows execution, a process explains responsibility, and a dated result describes measurement. Our work on Surxon Plast provides a concrete example of a product catalogue. It demonstrates website implementation, rather than a promise that redesign increases sales. Identify the useful function and show how it helps somebody choose or request a product.

04Test on an everyday phone

Open the landing page from the intended campaign link, read the conditions, switch language and send an agreed test. Check the keyboard, error messages, contrast, visible focus and field labels. A telephone link should trigger the intended action, but a tap does not establish that a conversation took place. A successful animation is insufficient evidence that a form works. Verify the stored enquiry, its fields and the responsible recipient. Test a second tap and a temporary network error as well: the customer should know whether their request was received.

05Protect the search foundation

Save important URLs and baseline records before launch. If addresses change, prepare old-to-new mappings and verify the redirects. Google’s site-move guidance covers URL mapping and monitoring during a migration. The technical migration workflow is covered separately in our redesign and SEO guide. This checklist focuses on the wider business decision: improving the offer and customer journey while retaining useful existing assets.

06Agree acceptance before development

Write conditions you can demonstrate. A staff member can update a service without a developer. A mobile form creates one received enquiry. Important services have dedicated pages. The selected language remains consistent. Required URLs respond correctly. Give every condition a test and an owner. Agree content preparation, migration, measurement, training and support as separate responsibilities. Use our redesign quote comparison guide to discuss the budget. The number of screens alone does not describe the work involved.

07Review what changed after launch

Record the release date and change list. Monitor errors, form delivery and enquiry handling first. Then compare suitable periods, accounting for traffic sources, seasonality and advertising changes. A redesign followed by a conversion-rate change does not establish that the redesign caused it. With very few enquiries, start by confirming availability and delivery. Avoid declaring a winner from two leads. A useful early outcome is a verified problem that has been removed and a customer journey that can be demonstrated end to end.

08Plan the redesign with UZNEO

Send your website, main service and three obstacles affecting customers or staff. We can review website redesign work, propose priorities and agree the scope, timing and acceptance checks. UZNEO works online from Tashkent and can discuss projects serving other markets; this does not imply a local office in your country. Start with one important page and a testable customer journey. Summary

A useful redesign starts with an observable problem and ends with verification. Keep what helps customers, remove proven obstacles and connect visual decisions to a business task.
