Yandex Direct in Uzbekistan: is it worth the investment

Yandex Direct in Uzbekistan: is it worth the investment

A clinic or wholesale owner hears: «Clicks are cheaper in Yandex — let's go there.» Sometimes that's true. Sometimes you pay for impressions to people who never search for your service in Yandex. Here is an honest look at where Yandex users are in Uzbekistan, when it complements Google, and when it burns budget without leads.

01Where the Yandex audience actually is

In Tashkent and major cities, most search happens on Google — phone, Chrome, habitual apps. Yandex stays visible among Russian-speaking users: expats, companies with Russian partners, B2B procurement, construction and wholesale, plus people who have searched via Yandex Browser for years. That is not «the whole country on Yandex». It is a segment. If your client applies in Uzbek on Instagram and never opens yandex.uz — Direct is not a magic switch. If calls start with «found you in Yandex, looking for a supplier» — the channel deserves a test. Before budget, answer: who pays and in which language they phrase the query. Without that, any Yandex Direct setup is a lottery.

02When Yandex beats Google — and when it complements

Yandex is often cheaper in the auction on narrow Russian queries: equipment, logistics, contractors, legal services for residents with a Russian context. Google may already be bid-up; Yandex sometimes still has room. Complement, not replace: Google catches mass local demand («dentist nearby», «apartment renovation»), Yandex adds a second layer for Russian speakers on the same services. Two accounts, one site, different UTMs — otherwise you cannot tell which channel brought payment. Do not rely on Yandex alone if the niche is purely Uzbek B2C and visual (salons, food delivery): Instagram and Google Maps often win. Yandex makes sense when search intent exists — the person types a query, not scrolls a feed.

03Budget logic: what to allocate for a start

A rough test budget for search in Tashkent is from $150–250 per month for one service if the niche is not hyper-competitive. That is on the order of a few hundred clicks — too little to «own the brand forever», enough to see if calls and forms tagged yandex appear. CPC in Yandex in Uzbekistan is often noticeably below Google (roughly up to a third less — not a law of nature). A cheap click on a weak page is still waste. Landing with price, area, call button first — scale second. Owner rule: do not count CPC, count cost per real conversation. If $200 bought two qualified calls and one invoice — that is data. If 40 clicks and zero forms — the issue is «query → ad → site», not «Yandex does not work in Uzbekistan».

04Realistic expectations: the first 2–4 weeks

Week one is mutual learning: negatives, geo, copy. Leads in the first 3 days are luck or repeat demand, not baseline. A fair test is 2–4 weeks of stable spend and at least 15–25 targeted clicks on commercial queries. Do not expect: • instant ROI like agency case studies «×10 in a week» • volume from the display network (RSYA) without placement control — lots of junk • identical results to Google — audiences overlap but do not duplicate Do expect: first calls on narrow queries, sometimes cheaper lead than Google in Russian-speaking niches. If a month of testing yields zero contacts with a decent site — close the channel honestly and reallocate budget instead of «optimizing» three more months out of pride.

05Why budget disappears: clicks, RSYA and protection

Yandex Direct charges per click. A competitor, bot or accidental banner tap in RSYA — money is already gone. In Uzbekistan, click fraud and junk traffic show up in search and network more than cabinet reports suggest. Typical leaks: • RSYA enabled day one without placement allowlists • no filtering of repeat clicks from one IP • Metrica counts everyone as conversion — optimization chases noise UZNEO adds on-site antifraud with ad management: suspicious visits do not train the campaign or eat budget again. For paid traffic this is not «enterprise optional» — at $200–400/mo every tenth fraudulent click hurts. More on the channel in Yandex Direct.

Summary

Yandex Direct in Uzbekistan is worth it when your paying client actually searches in Russian on Yandex and you will test search for 2–4 weeks with honest analytics. For mass Uzbek B2C, Google is usually the start; Yandex is a second auction, not the only bet.
